John Good designer wins ImagineFX competition

We are proud to announce another international graphic award success for a John Good designer.

Alex Kelly, from our programme studio, recently took the top prize in a worldwide contest organised by ImagineFX in association with Intel.

The brief was to create a graphic based upon a five-pointed star featuring the "Intel blue" to be used on ImagineFX/Intel promotional material.

Alex's winning design was the result of a huge amount of work! Click the thumbnail images on the left for a closer look...

He used Colours DS (a painting application on the Nintendo DS which is great for sketching out ideas) and GIMP. "The most tricky part," Alex says, "is not the actual painting process but getting a strong concept. Until that's nailed it can mean lots of reworking and starting over. Concept is king!"

The judges loved the innovative use of the star motif and how it neatly encompassed ImagineFX’s artistic readership. There were a huge number of entries but Alex was the "clear winner".

Alex said, “I am so happy and would like to thank my family for putting up with my computer painting obsession. It was a bit of a slog to fit it in between work and family – but I am very glad to say it was all worth it!”

As well as seeing his winning entry used in the campaign, Alex bagged himself a state-of-the-art Intel Core i7-based workstation and a copy of Corel Painter X.
