The Future of Theatre Conference – April 2025

We returned to @sohoplace this year as a #FutureOfTheatre conference corporate supporter. Our involvement was expertly managed by The Stage team, who once again pulled off a rewarding and insightful day.

Knowledgeable panellists and speakers discussed a variety of topics that will shape the future, like defining ‘good’, navigating new legislation, free speech, unconventional funding methods, risk-taking, crisis management and the constructive chaos of transformation and progress.

Of particular note was the extraordinary Dame Rosemary Squire of Trafalgar Entertainment, who inspired by reminding delegates of the value of kindness, bravery and resilience. Similarly, the National Theatre’s Indhu Rubasingham’s enthusiasm for collaboration, arts education and creating safe spaces for artistry to flourish was remarkable.

There was also the highly anticipated game-changing ‘Big Ideas’ pitches, all of which were thoughtfully presented. Congratulations to the winner, Rob Myles, who championed a national repertory network that would bridge the gap between emerging and established artists by way of devolved regional hubs for both performance and training.

Thank you to our hosts, Amanda Parker and Matthew Hemley, for guiding us through the day, plus the outstanding The Stage team for organising another excellent conference!

PS. Guess who delivered the conference pop-up banners and lectern’s foamex board?
