Future of Theatre Conference – April 2026
We returned to the #FutureOfTheatre Conference among the day’s sponsors, this year hosted by the swish Soho Theatre Walthamstow. As usual, there were bags of healthy debate and discussion. The Royal Shakespeare Company opened with an invigorating keynote, which was followed by panels that included topics such as learning from audience development and retention in other disciplines, creating revenue opportunities, immersing and involving audiences effectively, using sound to get audiences onside and embracing diversity of talent in order to elevate the industry.
There was much emphasis on theatre as a space for belonging, particularly in an environment increasingly influenced by AI and fleeting connections that aren’t particularly authentic or challenging. Of course, as every year, there were also fantastic big ideas presented by theatre makers who introduced specific visions and initiatives that could make real, positive change to the sector. Congratulations to the voted winner, John R Wilkinson, who proposed a fund for enabling smaller and mid-size theatres to become more accessible.
Beyond the insightful sessions, we were also present in the lovely art deco foyer, where we exhibited with fellow suppliers. As ever, it was a joy to showcase our suite of products and services to curious delegates and catch up with friends, customers and colleagues, many who recognised their print displayed at our stand. Unsurprisingly, there was considerable interest in our green credentials and how we support theatres and producers with their sustainability efforts. Season brochures printed on carbon balanced papers and mailed with no envelope? Yes, please!
It was a rewarding day; our thanks to the terrific The Stage team!
