The Future of Theatre Conference – April 2024
We joined the #TheatreFamily at Nimax Theatre’s stylish @sohopace for a vibrant and thought-provoking Future of Theatre conference. As a testament to our commitment to being part of the conversation and the sector’s ecosystem, we are proud to have been a corporate supporter.
Guest speakers were a veritable ‘who’s who’ of thespian leaders, ranging from artistic directors, producers, journalists, administrators and, of course, actors. A speech and Q&A session with Shadow Culture Secretary of State, Thangam Debbonaire, was particularly interesting, with firm nods to the future shaping of the industry.
Topics that were discussed, challenged and debated ranged from accessibility, writing, inclusivity, sharing of data and wellness. We were inspired by the mutual ambition to produce greener shows and to make changes to venues which will help decrease carbon footprints. This aligns with our own ever-evolving commitment to safeguarding the environment. We all agreed that every step matters and becoming greener is a shared journey – and certainly not a competition!
An opportunity to pitch ‘big ideas’ to transform the theatre industry proved fascinating and a lot of fun for conference delegates, especially as audience interaction was made possible via a nifty app. Congratulations to winner Andrew Ladd who called for more ticket and sales transparency, by way of sharing of figures, which is already customary in the gigs, cinema and book publishing sectors.
Of course, there was also time for networking, which we utilised to make new connections and catch up with customers, friends and colleagues, all the while learning how we can continue to partner as the leading UK printer/publisher to theatres and performing arts.
Thank you to the excellent team at The Stage for organising an outstanding conference!
