Theatre and Touring Summit - July 2023

Last month, we joined fellow “Theatre Family” colleagues in London for a very rewarding event hosted by UK Theatre, of which we are a proud partner member. Being very much involved with theatre and the touring subsector, it was important for us to be present and reconnect with friends and customers.

We were struck by the range of sessions and topics covered and couldn’t wait to get stuck in! Indeed, the speakers - including DCMS Secretary of State, Lucy Frazer - and panellists impressed not only with their expertise, but also their buoyancy and positivity. While serious themes like audience behaviour and continued inflationary pressures were addressed, these were coupled with a distinct and refreshing element of constructive positivity.

The mitigation of risks such as skills gaps, leadership retention and (surprise!) funding, by way of new work models and approaches were high on the agenda. During the sessions - and even the breakouts - there were many enthusiastic conversations with ideas and experiences being shared; a measure of the industry’s desire for rapport that results in collaborative and actionable initiatives. As a leading supplier, this reminded us of our pivotal role in servicing a professional community that thrives on dynamism and creativity.

By the end of the day, it was evident that building stronger connections with industry peers and engaging in practical solutions enables the industry to succeed collectively and bring more theatre to a wider audience. And who wouldn’t want that?

Most certainly a worthwhile day; it was particularly lovely to say hello to many of our partners and even put faces to voices we know so well!
